Efficiencies

Power requirements at any given pump speed can be determined by knowing the efficiencies of pump, motor, and controller at that speed. The following equation gives the pumping cost per kw hour in any installation.

Cost =( (.000189) (H) (Q0 (R)) / ((Ep) (Em) (Ec))

Where:

.000189 = Kw required to pump 1 gpm per foot of head at 100% efficiency
H = Head
Q = Flow
R = Rate charged by the power company
Ep = Efficiency of pump at designated speed
Em = Efficiency of motor at designated speed
Ec = Efficiency of controller at designated speed

At any speed, the LR 100 controller is approximately 3% more efficient than a magnetic clutch and 5-8% more efficient than a hydraulic coupling. The LR 100 has a better efficiency because it does not require a clutch with its various friction and windage losses.
