SIMPLE AND EFFICIENT DC MOTOR
CONTROLLER
Flomatcher manufactures variable speed motor control
systems. Flomatcher's Liquid Rheostat Control System matches pump motor speed to the
changing flow rates of water and waste water treatment systems. Our control systems are
used on pump motors ranging from 5 HP to 4,000 HP. Liquid rheostats have been installed in
all types of environmental conditions from the cold temperatures of Alaska to the high
humidity of Hawaii.
WHAT IS IT?
The liquid rheostat variable speed controller changes the
speed of a wound rotor motor and centrifugal pump in response to changes in process
demand. This is achieved by changing the resistance in the secondary circuit of a wound
rotor induction motor.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A liquid rheostat operates with electrical current flowing
in electrolyte between copper electrodes. As the electrolyte solution rises in the
rheostat, the electrical resistance decreases causing the speed of the motor to increase.
As the solution lowers the electrical resistance increases and the speed of the motor
slows. The electrical resistance between the electrodes varies with the amount of
electrolyte in the rheostat.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
RELIABILITY
 | Flomatcher's Model BT Variable Speed
Controller provides the simplest means possible of matching pump discharge to changes in
influent rate. This model uses a bubbler tube immersed in the wet well to sense the
influent rate. The LOAD CEL operates directly without the need of further signal
conversion. The model BT contains a level limiting valve to prevent the liquid level from
rising above the upper limit of the control range. Additionally, a pressure switch
prevents the restarting of the motor until the electrolyte is at a safe level in the LOAD
CEL. |
 | Flomatcher's Model DOV Variable Speed
Controller is designed to maintain constant pressure in a distribution system despite
changes in demand. This model is used in water distribution systems to augment or replace
elevated storage tanks, control deep well pumping stations, and regulate discharge
pressure of the water distribution system by monitoring the pump discharge header. The
term "direct operated" means the valve position is controlled directly by the
measured variable without an interposing transducer or control elements. The Model DOV
controls hydraulic line pressure using one control valve functioning as both a signal
converter and set point comparator. |
 | FLOMATCHER'S MODEL BSV Variable Speed
Controller operates from any transduceable parameter. This model controls pressure, flow,
temperature or liquid level with an electronic sensor. A feedback loop provides a 1-15 vdc
signal that is inversely proportional to motor speed. The sensor and feedback signals are
summed to generate a signal that indicates deviation from a predetermined set point. This
controller will work in a telemetering network or under computer supervision. |
